When we got given the brief for the new project I was so excited! Horror and Gothic in one?! Yes please! I have always had a major love for Horror films and anything gothic... so when Sharron went through the brief with the group I was really, really pleased.
I am looking forward to researching more thoroughly in to the depths of where horror and gothic elements came from originally. I plan to watch lots of horror films as research to give me some ideas as well.
I personally prefer the Prosthetics and Special FX side of Make-up, so I am excited to bring these elements in to my final designs.

Meet Claudia. Meet Quentin. Love Hurts.
This stage of the project will allow you to utilize your skills in design development and characterization. Using references to Gothic Horror as a point of inspiration, you are asked to design two proposed characters for a music video – Claudia and Quentin. The characters must reference gothic and/or urban horror and you are to use the suggested themes referenced in the seminars.
To embrace the range of possibilities through research and subsequent design development you will continue to develop a blog to record your journey throughout this project. Use your blog to record thoughts and ideas together with any sourced imagery, video and music that you feel would be of help to the production team at planning meetings with set and prop designers, hair and make-up and directors and producers. As the emphasis is on developing your skills in gothic hair and make up, you will be expected to record several test shots to establish the look most suitable for the characters.
How can you use the ideas and techniques from the project brief for Great Expectations, Music video, gothic horror text, tv, film and historical references, to inform the makeup design for the characters of Claudia and Quentin.
Time management is important throughout this unit, begin early to find models/actors who are willing to be made over and photographed in mid-shot and close up. You will need to style each actor/model – clothes and accessories can be made, borrowed, or loaned from shops.

Estella Assesment process pictures
I am really disappointed with my Estella assessment. I didn't feel prepared enough and as a result my outcome was not strong enough. Had I given myself more time to prepare for this shoot then I think my ideas would have been followed through to a better standard.
Estella design 2...
I wanted to try and create a design for Estella where she still looked eerily pretty but as she hadn't been exposed to much light and the outdoors her skin was dull in colour. I think I prefer my first design and will go from there.
Idea inspiration for Estellas hair...
I came across this picture on Pinterest and it really stuck out to me as being a style that Estella's character could really pull off. I feel that the style below matches my idea of Estella becoming a women.
Estella Design 1...
I wanted to keep this design of Estella very simple and subtle. My idea behind my interpretation of Estella is that she is a young girl flourishing in to a women. So I wanted to try and portray this in the make up. I have literally added some colour to the brows to give some definition, blush to the cheek and colour to the lips to portray a nice rosy plush younf women. There wasn't much, if any at all, make up worn in this era anyhow.
