Wedding Dress Inspiration

Here are a few images I came across on various pages on my Facebook that inspired me and I felt linked in to the Miss Havisham project.

I particularly liked the textures in these dresses.

I particularly liked the head dress in this picture that Kara is wearing. You could make this bigger and create bigger shapes which I think would work well for a silhouette.

The shape of the dress and the volume really reminded me of Miss Havisham. I think that this whole look from top to bottom work make a beautiful silhouette.

This is such an amazing look. I love the height of the head dress/veil and think that this has so much potential for a great shaped silhouette.

A little inspiration

I wanted to share this picture on my Blog as I really got lost in it. I feel it represents Miss Havisham in so many ways. The wedding dress, the colours, the body language, the sadness. Although this is a very theatrical face, I just loved the links between Miss Havisham's character and the picture.

Hair Inspiration

I have been collecting images of hair that inspire me, or that I think would make a great silhouette. Here are a few pictures I think have great shape and or represent Miss Havisham and Decay/Cold.

This picture inspired me for an Estella look. The hair colour is rich and bold, two words I feel represent Estella's character very appropriately. The curls are very distinctive and have a lot of attitude to them, but at the same time are extremely feminine and beautiful. This look would work well for Estella.

I saw this picture and felt it represented the word Decay really well. The shape of the hair really inspired me to play around with this idea for my actual Miss Havisham assessment. My model Ayesha has very long hair so I think I would incorporate some matted dread locks at the bottom to give it a real decayed look.

This picture would make a great shape for a silhouette. The hair has been backcombed to create the texture.

I adore this picture. Although there isn't much going on with the actual hair I would find it interesting to see how the horn would work as a silhouette with the straight hair. What kind of shape would this create? Interesting!

I love this hair. To me, it has decay written all over it. The shape would look awesome as a silhouette, the hair falling down is as if it is dripping away from the head. Gorgeous piece of work!

This doesn't relate to Miss Havisham or the words cool and decay but I would be interested to see what shapes this would create in a silhouette.

I adore this picture. The shape and texture is beautiful. I love how it has been structured and I also feel it has an element of the word Cool and Decay. This would create an awesome silhouette and at some point I would like to create this shape!!!

Searching for Miss Havisham Wedding Dress

Myself and Ley have planned a shoot around the character Miss Havisham. We have planned the shoot together and put our money together and went Wedding Dress shopping! We went in every shop imaginable to find what we thought was the right dress for Miss Havisham. After spending hours getting know where we stumbled upon a charity shop hidden away. And just as we were about to call it a day, we found the perfect wedding dress costing £30! Bargain!

We plan to distress the wedding dress, and shoot in the Park just by uni. Here are some of the dresses we looked at before finding "The One".

The moment we found the dress!!!

·         Use small pointy brush for delicate work around the eyes
·         Mix moisturiser with supra pallet this makes the product look realistic
·         Blend hard edges
·         Think about where people look as if they are tired
·         Don’t take tired all the way down the cheeks as this doesn’t happen
·         Using clean fingers apply colours
·         Add colour gently
·         Dab colour on with fingers if needed
·         Be careful that you don’t make it look rouge
·         Think about detail- ears, neck, down the body
·         Allergy rash could just be on chest
·         Make sure you add rash on to forehead and nose
·         Add rash to hairline
·         Make it uneven so that it looks realistic
·         Make lip look slightly blue but don’t make them look gothic
·         Add a sore bit in corner of lip

·         After you have finished go back and add more colour on to rashy areas if needed, take a picture and see how it looks
Latex Process
·         Stretch clean skin, you can make up underneath
·         The further you stretch the skin the more wrinkly it will go
·         Triangular sponges are good to cover area
·         Feather out/blend edges, go for thinner edges, don’t go over same area
·         Dry with cool hair dryer
·         Latex when dry is shiny so use powder over the top to make more realistic
Some notes to consider
·         Think about what has happened to the person you are doing the rash on
·         What are the symptoms?
·         What stage is rash/illness at?
·         Blotchy skin- blood vessels near surface of the skin open up
·         Need to mix/get right colour of the blotchiness
·         Use finger tips to blend/put make up on at times

CSP - Compulsive Skin Picking

Miss Havisham picks at her skin excessively and causes sores and irritation. It is usually the face that the individual will start picking but it is also common for other parts of the body. It is generally normal for the individual to start picking at a spot, freckle or something similar and then it leads in to a habit and a vicious circle. Skin picking isn't just performed by finger nails, it is also caused by tweezers, pins or anything similar. CPS is mainly caused through depression and stressed, but can also in some cases be an unconscious reaction. Some examples:

Trichotillomania

Trichotillomania is where a person pulls out their hair, from anywhere on the body. It could be the head, arms, eyebrows, eyelashes... there isn't a particular area it just depends on the individual. Trichotillomania is an impulse- control disorder which means that you cant control it. It is very addictive and can be very embarrassing when you are left with bald patches. After the hair has been pulled out it is very common for the person to feel guilt, but it still doesn't stop the urge to pull more out.

Its not yet known what causes this condition but there are several theories as to why people might do this. A couple of theories are that it is just pure addiction. Once you have pulled one hair out you feel the need to carry on. Another theory is that it may be related to mental health problems. It is a way to release stress. Some examples of Trichotillomania:

Skin problems caused by Depression/Stress and Anxiety

I thought it would be quite interesting to research in to skin irritations/problems that are caused by Stress and Depression. Miss Havisham self harms by scratching away at her skin constantly, probably as a way to relieve some tension and deal with her anxiety. This is caused by her but I wanted to show different types of skin irritations caused by stress as we have been learning how to create skin defects in our practical's.

Acne is linked to stress, and normally appears on the face, but in some cases can appear on your body. Acne is basically pustules, white heads, black heads that become inflamed due to stress. You can treat acne with creams and lotions but having a healthy approach to life and a clear and stress free mind set can help cure it. Here are some examples of acne:

Psoriasis is a skin condition that is very closely related to stress and anxiety. It appears as silvery scales, and it can be sore and itchy. The main areas on the body it normally appears on are the neck, scalp, elbows and chest. It can worsen when stress levels are increased.

Hives are typically known to be caused by allergic reactions. But it is also quite common to get Hives when you are stressed, depressed or suffer from anxiety. Hives are fluid filled blisters that appear on the neck, back, torso and face.

Miss Havisham Designs

Here I have created 3 potential final designs of Miss Havisham. I like my idea's and concepts but I do feel that I could perfect each design and focus more on contouring so that I can really create the impression I am trying to portray. My own idea of Miss Havisham is that she is a beautiful lady, with cold sharp contouring to highlight her bony features. I liked the idea of her eyebrows being quite extreme and over grown, with the underneath of her eyes purple/blue to show how tired she is. I have experimented with different colours to see how contouring could be effective in different shades. I wanted to contour to give a gaunt effect on the face as Miss Havisham never seemed to eat much.

Practising Theatrical Ageing

Products I used:
  1. Kryolan foundation pallet
  2. Dermacolor Camoflage concealer pallet
  3. Illamasqua Rich Liquid foundation white
  4. Make up brushes
  5. Cape
Steps:
  • Create your base, to suit the colour you want, I mixed Illamasqua white base with the lightest Kryolan colour from the pallet
  • Apply all over face using foundation brush
  • Buff base in
  • Using your camouflage concealer pallet and a small brush contour your face using the natural shadows on your face to help guide you.
  • Using a much lighter colour highlight the outside of the shadows to create a gaunt look
  • Using your camouflage pallet, scrunch your face up and draw over the wrinkles your face creates to add depth and ageing
